Service Description

All studio clay, tools and firings included in the price* This 6 week course will cover and build a foundation of handbuilding techniques including coil, pinch, slab, surface design methods & glazing. Each week, class will begin with a 20-30 minute demo followed by your own creative exploration with guidance as needed. Special projects are welcome and keeping a sketchbook for loose conceptualization is encouraged. You'll leave this session with a solid understanding of the full process from initial building to final glazed work and a well-rounded skill set to continue on in your practice. Beginner-friendly, all levels welcome. $490 5/19 - 6/30 - Skips Memorial Day 5/26 Mondays 6:30-9pm *Students can expect to complete approximately 3–4 finished pieces during the course. Please note that for any individual piece measuring 12 inches or more in any direction, additional firing fees will apply: $0.03 per cubic inch for bisque firing and $0.03 per cubic inch for glaze firing, per oversized piece. Classes are focused on learning and skill development—not production. We encourage students to explore techniques thoughtfully and enjoy the creative process. Cancelations must be before 5/15 to be eligible for a refund. Teacher Bio: Christina Howard is a Brooklyn based ceramic artist who has been working in clay for over 7 years. Focusing on handbuilding in her practice, she creates contemporary functional forms & figurative sculpture that explore mysticism & antiquity. In class, she encourages a spirit of play, curiosity and experimentation and believes that creativity is a muscle that, with practice, grows stronger over time. Christina graduated from The Ohio State University and has a 10 year design background working in the fashion industry. There are no make-ups for missed classes or extra studio time, unless otherwise specified.
