Service Description

Studio clay, Glazing, Kiln Firing and Tool Usage Included in the Price. Beginner-friendly, all levels welcome. This 6 week course will cover and build a foundation of handbuilding techniques including coil, pinch, slab, surface design methods & glazing. Each week, class will begin with a 20-30 minute demo followed by your own creative exploration with guidance as needed. Special projects are welcome and keeping a sketchbook for loose conceptualization is encouraged. You'll leave this course with a solid understanding of the full process from initial building to final glazed work and a well-rounded skill set to continue on in your practice. There's absolutely no pressure to have any experience or have it all figured out. Come to class with an open mind and a sketch book, and we will work through your goals together to make some beautiful, unique pieces! 228 Suydam st Monday Evenings 7-9:30pm 9/21-10/26 *Students can expect to complete approximately 3–4 finished pieces during the course. Please note that for any individual piece measuring 12 inches or more in any direction, additional firing fees will apply. Teacher Bio: Eva Conrad spent most of her adult life living in Appalachia, where she began her ceramics career within a rich craft environment. She received a BFA at Appalachian State University. She currently lives and works in Queens, creating functional and sculptural vessels. Eva’s work strongly focuses on exploring various techniques of color and pattern expression, always chasing new designs and colors. Their strong background in painting shows through in the maximalist surfaces. Eva sees teaching as an enriching way to be a part of a long history of pushing ceramics in new directions. Cancelations must be before 9/15 to be eligible for a refund. $25 Cancelation fee. All of our makeup sessions are non-instructed (except the last class - glazing which is instructed) . Unfortunately, it’s not possible for us to fit all makeup students into regularly scheduled instructor-led classes. While we offer makeup sessions as a courtesy for students who miss a class, we can’t guarantee a makeup. 1 Make-up per multi-week session.
